Tratzberg Castle
An excursion tip from Lake Natterer See
500 years of history in a jewel among Austria's castles. The mighty castle was built in 1500 high above the Inn Valley between Jenbach and Stans and was used as a hunting lodge by Emperor Maximilian I and the Fuggers. Exquisitely furnished and extensively extended during the Renaissance, the castle has been the private residence of the Counts of Enzenberg since 1848. Emperors, knights and other aristocratic previous owners of Tratzberg personally guide visitors through the castle by means of a fascinating audio play (in up to 8 languages) and show magnificent Renaissance rooms, originally furnished Gothic parlours, the hunting hall, the Gothic chapel, as well as the unique wall painting of the Habsburg family tree with its 148 figures and the extensive collection of the armoury.
