Farmers' markets
Specialities from local agriculture: weekly markets have a long tradition in Innsbruck. Local vegetables, fruit, cheese, meat and sausage products, honey, jams, schnapps and much more are on offer. If you come to Wiltener Platzl on Saturdays, you really do feel like you're in a village, because every week there is a very popular small farmers' market here, which spreads a floral and fruity blaze of colour as well as the delicious aromas of bacon, cheese and sausages. The farmers' market on Sparkassenplatz is very popular with locals and visitors alike and is always very busy. Fresh ‘Tiroler Kiachl’ and other delicacies from traditional rural cuisine are on offer here.
Grassmayr bell foundry
Grassmayr foundry and museum: experience centuries of tradition here.
Bells and works of art have been cast from bronze here since 1599. On entering the old casting hall, visitors can sense the mystique of this traditional craft. A 200-year-old wood-burning furnace is not only a historical document, but also a tool still steeped in tradition. The masterpiece of the ‘Bell Museum’ is the successful combination of museum rooms with living craftsmanship. Visitors can watch the casters at work in the modern and colourful bell foundry during operating hours. The heart of the bell foundry is a six metre deep pit in which a bell weighing a maximum of 37 tonnes could be cast.
